I'm going to learn to type using the Dvorak keyboard. And I must be completely insane.
I already type fairly well (on good ole QWERTY), but I've heard you can type better when you learn Dvorak. So I'm going to give it a shot.
Here's a rought outline of how I think this experiment will go:
1. Learn everything I can about keyboards, specifically QWERTY and Dvorak (for comparison purposes)
2. Test my typing speed on a standard QWERTY keyboard (the same one I've been typing on since I learned to type on an old typewriter in the fifth grade).
3. Buy a Dvorak keyboard (or modify a QWERTY keyboard) to learn on
4. Spend a few weeks getting used to Dvorak, and document how it's going
5. Test my speed each week as I learn Dvorak
6. Publish my findings on this blog
Hopefully, this won't totally screw up my amazing QWERTY skills. And, who knows, maybe I really will be able to type faster.
It's worth a shot. Stay tuned.
